Blue zones are regions where people live unusually long, healthy lives โ like Okinawa (Japan), Sardinia (Italy), Ikaria (Greece), Nicoya (Costa Rica), and Loma Linda (USA). Researchers who studied them found striking dietary overlaps: their diets are largely plant-based, built around beans, whole grains, vegetables, and nuts, with meat eaten only occasionally and little ultra-processed food.
It's not just food. These communities tend to eat moderate portions, stop before they're completely full, drink alcohol lightly if at all, and stay physically and socially active into old age. No single superfood explains it โ it's a pattern of mostly-plants, moderation, and community that adds up over a lifetime.
